Shout
for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music;
Psalm 98:4 tells us to shout to the Lord, yet He hears the
whispers of our heart… why do we need to shout? Verbalizing our petitions is
not for His benefit, but for ours. God doesn’t need us to shout at Him for Him
to hear us, so why does He say to Shout for joy? Why not whisper for joy?
Let me clue you in on a secret.
Its for our sake, not His.
Its for our sake, not His.
He can hear the quiet whispers of our heart.
We don’t always hear it and may need to verbalize it in
order to realize a truth.
But in reality it is this. Things that feel like
obligations, like going to church, prayer, fasting, etc.. are really
opportunities for us to grow spiritually, not for God. He doesn’t need us to do
those things but He offers us these precious chances to grow. He doesn’t need
us to fast or give up the chocolate for lent – those are the opportunities He
offers us, places in our lives, for us to grow in our walk with Him. Lets not
miss any of these beautiful and precious opportunities!
No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8
